Games that challenge us, that demand us to truly come to grips with their mechanics in order to get the most out of them, may not be for every single person out there, but they hold a huge place in the hearts of many nonetheless. There’s something extremely gratifying about understanding the ins and outs of a game, and then using that knowledge and skill to throw even the most difficult challenges it throws at you, especially when that game manages to find the right balance between being difficult and being fair. We played plenty of challenging games in 2018, and here in this feature, we’re going to talk about the fifteen that were the most difficult of them all. Without further ado, let’s get right into it.

 Below was in development for five years, which is a long time to wait for any game. Late in 2018, we finally got to play the game, and what a ride it was. While there’s an argument to be made that it’s difficulty can actually be a bit unfair at times, especially combined with the undeniable repetitiveness, most of the times, the game manages to find the right balance. Struggling through gruelling encounters and navigating around the many deathtraps it throws at you is as satisfying as you would expect.
