With Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Square Enix set out with the explicit goal of releasing a game that’ll achieve a Metacritic score of over 90, and the highly anticipated action RPG sequel has managed to do just that, becoming one of the best-reviewed Final Fantasy games to date. To commemorate its launch today, Square Enix has released a new trailer that highlights that universal critical acclaim. Check it out below.

Picking up where Final Fantasy 7 Remake left off, Rebirth sees Cloud Strife and company stepping beyond the walls of Midgar and into a larger world, with the double threat of Shinra and Sephiroth to contend with. Boasting a massive open world, dozens upon dozens of hours of play time, a multitude of minigames and side activities, improvements to the combat, and more, Rebirth promises a number of steps forward over its acclaimed predecessor.

In our own review of the game, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “The promise of those old, grand, globe-trotting Final Fantasy epics from the series’ 16- and 32-bit heyday in AAA form has been fulfilled at last. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth finally realizes the series’ central, implicit potential, looking to the past to pave the way for hopefully the start of a new golden age for the series.” Read the full review through here.
