In a recent interview with Famitsu about Final Fantasy 7 Remake, director Tetsuya Nomura talked about how he’d like the next game to be even more enjoyable. Furthermore, the developer’s policy on subsequent sequels would be detailed when Part 2 is announced. More information has been revealed from the same interview, including producer Yoshinori Kitase stating, “The story of the new Final Fantasy 7 is just beginning.”

Co-director Naoki Hamaguchi reaffirmed that development had already begun on the next game and that the team was hard at work. Despite Nomura’s desire to get it out quickly, Hamaguchi said, “You’ll be waiting a little while, but please look forward to it.” He also said that the team was looking at feedback from fans who wanted Classic Mode to be playable on Normal difficulty.

Co-director Motomu Toriyama also spoke about some aspects of the original that had been removed, like the AVALANCHE hideout. Toriyama said this was done “to create a greater sense of distance between AVALANCHE and Cloud.” It also seems that Roche was supposed to appear in the final battle but since that ruined the serious tone, the idea was nixed. Don’t worry though – chances are high that he returns in the sequel.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is currently available for PS4. Development was stated to have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, but it apparently won’t have a big impact in “the long term”. Stay tuned for more details on Part 2 in the coming days.
