Rocksteady Studios is Looking to Revert to Single-Player Experiences – Rumour

It's been claimed in a new report that after the failure of Suicide Squad, the studio is looking to pitch a single-player game to parent company WB Games.

The list of prominent studios known for their excellent single-player games that end up chasing live service trends to inevitable failure grows longer every year, and though each new addition to that list hurts, one of the most unfortunate additions was Rocksteady Studios, the Batman: Arkham studio that released lambasted live service looter shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League earlier this year.

Unsurprisingly, however, it doesn’t look like Rocksteady intends to stick with the multiplayer program too much longer. After the critical and commercial failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier is now reporting that the studio is set to revert to single-player development. More specifically, according to Schreier, Rocksteady will be pitching a new single-player game to parent company WB Games that’s being looked at as a return to roots.

Of course, whether or not the pitch is something that catches WB’s eye is another question entirely, especially given the company’s insistence on sticking with its live service plans, but after how Suicide Squad turned out, maybe a reexamination of those plans is in order.

Recently, WB announced that the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had resulted in a whopping $200 million loss for the company. Earlier this year, reports claimed that the game’s fifth post-launch season in 2025 will be its last.

Meanwhile, Schreier’s report claims that Rocksteady is currently also helping fellow WB-owned studio Avalanche Software with the development of a “director’s cut” for acclaimed 2022 single-player RPG Hogwarts Legacy. Read more on that through here.
