While exploration is a major part of Ghost of Yōtei, many will doubtless wonder about the evolution of combat. Atsu possesses multiple weapons, including a kusarigama, yari, katana, dual swords, and odachi, and each is effective against different enemy types. The odachi, for example, is suited for heavies, while dual blades are great against spear-wielding threats.
They also have unique upgrades and takedowns, as exemplified by the kusarigama pulling an enemy from range and instantly slaying them. You can also pick up weapons, like spears, to chuck at hapless fools and even disarm threats if you’re quick enough. However, beware because enemies can also disarm you.
What happens when you fight an enemy with the wrong weapon type? Switch weapons on the fly, which opens up some potential for different combos. Once again, however, beware because enemies can also switch weapons. Of course, ranged weapons like muskets and bows abound, and you can throw kunai and blinding powder for an advantage.
It’s also worth noting the mysterious wolf that Atsu occasionally meets. Not only will it help you out, but it also participates in Standoffs. Sucker Punch also showcased several new armor sets and charms for Atsu, with players once again able to specialize in different playstyles. You can also dye armor and weapons for further customization.
Ghost of Yōtei launches on October 2nd for PS5 and aims to become Sucker Punch’s most open game to date. Stay tuned for more details shortly.
